The Sharma family from VA and NY visiting NC for Thanksgiving have been in attendance for many years – families that run together stay together. This year 2 members of the family scored Silver medals💚
Lake Norman Half Marathon Turkey Trot, 10K & 5K was held in Cornelius, NC on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024. This was the 18th year of this race and the 3rd year hosted by Life Fellowship Church.
The weather was horrible! At 4:30am driving to the course we had major rain, thunder and lightning. The absolute worst kind of weather for a race promoter and not very fun for runners. Plus it was cold (but not bitter cold like previous years.) Luckily it stopped raining at 6:45am but the wind picked up wreaking havoc on the signage on the course, the arch and the fences. Crazy weather.
Luckily by 7:30am at the start things had calmed down a bit and the runners were able to roll out without getting rained on.
The half marathoners left at 7:30am, the 10K runners left at 7:35am and the hoard of 5K runners left around 7:45am.
These were just some of the comments from the racers:
“thank you for allowing such late sign ups for your races. Very happy to see how late the window is open, for us last minute decision makers. MUCH APPRECIATED” ~ Matthew C.
“All in all was a wonderful race and enjoy racing with Epic.” ~ Molly C.
“I enjoyed spending Thanksgiving morning at the Trot with my daughter before I had to go to work.” ~ Mary Beth T.
“Very well organized event! Challenging course but, fun event …loved seeing all the families running together!” ~ Sheryl R.
“Well run race by epic sports marketing. Volunteers are excellent and do an awesome job encouraging the runners!” ~ Margaret M.
“The race this year was great, best one in the 18-year history of the Lake Norman Turkey Trot! All three courses were very well marked, volunteers and police at every intersection and great support at the water stops. The new course includes a nice out and back on the McDowell Creek Greenway. Overall, well done!” ~ Erik J.
“Our first Lake Norman Turkey Trot experience was great! 3 generations of our family, ages 7 to 63, ran/walked the 5k, and all thought it was a well-run, local, convenient home town race for Thanksgiving morning. We definitely plan on coming back next year! Thank you to the organizers!!” ~ Debbie G.
“For many years we have been enjoying the Lake Norman Turkey Trot – no matter what the weather it is a great way to start the day!” ~ Ann P.
“We appreciate this race and event. We had family participating from NY and VA, they had a blast.” ~ Gautam P.
The Half Marathon course was 2 loops with about 721 of climbing.
