2nd Annual Lake Norman Half Marathon Wildman & 5K post race update

Dr. Sophie Zimmerman, winner of the Half Marathon Ladies 20-29 age group with a time of 1:44:24 celebrating on the coveted top step of the podium! She is a Physical Therapist at Healthy Body PT in Huntersville, NC.

Lake Norman Half Marathon Wildman & 5K was held in Mooresville, NC on March 23, 2024. The weather was rainy and cold. All in all a perfect day for WILDMAN.

The team was OUTSTANDING! When we arrived prior to 6:00am the biggest concern was the rain. Our policy is to run races rain, shine or snow – although if there’s lightning we delay the start until 15 minutes past the last strike. Luckily the rain stopped around 5:30am but it was still windy. Race operations went out to fix the signage and luckily the road arrows withheld the all night rain.

The half marathoners left at 7:30am and the 5K runners started around 7:45am.

We were very curious what the athletes would think of this course. This course was slightly different than last years – a double loop for the half marathoners.

Some thoughts from the racers:

“I liked the venue and the challenging hills.”

“it is beautiful here”

The Half Marathon course was 1 loop with about 455 of climbing – but it was the frequency of short steep hills that shredded everyones quads!

We are so impressed by all the athletes who came out and raced in the 2nd Annual Lake Norman Half Marathon Wildman & 5K.

The 5K Male Overall champions were:

1. #1162 – Austin Netzley from Austin, TX who did a 21:33 with a pace of 6:56
2. #1159 – Jeffrey Rhoades from Mooresville, NC who did a 21:37 with a pace of 6:57
3. #1465 – Josh Roppo from Ridgefield, WA who did a 22:33 with a pace of 7:15

The 5K Female Overall champions were:

1. #1394 – Emilie Biniker from Nashville, TN who did a 23:05 with a pace of 7:25
2. #1468 – Sarah Carroll from Cornelius, NC who did a 23:08 with a pace of 7:26
3. #1683 – Karlie Redfern from Harrisburg, NC who did a 24:29 with a pace of 7:52

The Half Marathon Male Overall champions were:

1. #1659 – Chas Willimon from Cornelius, NC who did a 1:21:22 with a pace of 6:12
2. #1615 – Brandon Ivanowicz from Juneau, AK who did a 1:26:11 with a pace of 6:34
3. #1638 – Jan Malmon from Charlotte, NC who did a 1:29:27 with a pace of 6:49

The Half Marathon Female Overall champions were:

1. #1575 – Mary Schill from Rootstown, OH who did a 1:40:08 with a pace of 7:38
2. #1692 – Maggie Sebastian from Jonesville, NC who did a 1:40:44 with a pace of 7:41
3. #1601 – Savannah Huckabee from Connellys Springs, NC who did a 1:40:54 with a pace of 7:42
